Rape and murder of an innocent mother by Sri Lankan Soldiers

Sarathambal Saravanbavananthakurukal, of a Hindu Brahmin family, was forcibly dragged from her home, in Pungudutivu, near Jaffna Peninsula, by Sri Lankan Navy soldiers. They then gang-raped and murdered her. The body of the 29 year-old mother was found the following morning, under leaves, not far from her home near Kannaki Amman Temple.
Her father Chandrasekara Sarma and her three-year old daughter performed the last rites.

BBC's Jaffna correspondent’s murder suspect is Sri Lankan government’s ally.
Nimalarajan Mylvaganam was murdered in cold blood as he was writing for the BBC at home one evening. He was a regular contributor to the BBC's Sinhala and Tamil language programs, Sandeshaya and Tamil Osai, and a correspondent for the Colombo-based Tamil daily Virakesari and Ravaya, a Sinhala language weekly. He was also the secretary of the Northern Journalists Association.
He was one of the journalists who first wrote about the mass graves at Chemmani on the outskirts of Jaffna town where about 600 “disappeared” Tamil youth were killed and buried by the armed forces in the mid-1990s.

His father was repeatedly knifed and his mother and young nephew badly injured by a hand grenade explosion in their sitting room.

All this took place during curfew hours in a high security zone in Jaffna close to several military check points.
Already suspicions have been raised that the Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP), one of the ruling P.A.'s political allies, may have been responsible for the killing. The EPDP, which maintains its own groups of armed thugs, works closely with the security forces on the Jaffna peninsula in maintaining what amounts to martial law in the area.
